The African University
College of Communications(AUCC) and the University of Bahamas(UOB) have
signed a Memorandum of Understanding today in Nassau with the objective
of establishing partnership and collaboration between the two institutions.
The MOU was signed by AUCC President Kojo Yankah and the President of
UOB Janyne Hodder.
The MOU seeks essentially to provide
persons seeking higher education with a wider range of options for achieving
their educational goals and also to promote scholarship.
The agreement will facilitate the enrolment of students and faculty
of each institution in undergraduate and graduate course and the exchange
of faculty and students for purposes of cultural enrichment, study,
internship and teaching.
The MOU also provides for joint
research activities, exchange of students and faculty for purposes of
research, guest lectures and seminars, collaboration in the publication
of scholarly documents, exchange of instructional materials, educational
research and other educational expertise.
The first batch of students and
faculty from the University of Bahamas will undertake a Study Abroad
programme at the AUCC from July 2009. In brief remarks after the signing
ceremony, President Hodder said she looked forward to the opportunity
of ‘exploring frontiers of knowledge around communications, patterns
of culture and the need for students to have international exchange
experiences’. On his part, President Yankah expressed his delight
at’ the possibility for staff and students of AUCC to be the bridge
for scholarly and cultural understanding between Africans and peoples
of the Caribbean’.
