The African University College
of Communications, in collaboration with Ghana Telecom University College
& Penplusbytes (The International Institution for ICT Journalism),
will host a historic international symposium on communication, new media
and development from 4th - 5th June 2009 at the Discovery House Campus
of AUCC at Adabraka, Accra.

will host a historic international symposium on communication, new media
and development from 4th - 5th June 2009 at the Discovery House Campus
of AUCC at Adabraka, Accra.
The theme for the symposium is "Assessing
the contribution of communication and new media to human development
in Africa."
The world is witnessing the evolution
of a universal interconnected network of audio, video, and electronic
text communications that will soon blur the distinction between interpersonal
and mass communication and between public and private communication.
This symposium will enable communication
scholars from all over Africa to evaluate concepts and strategies and
place the issues of capacity building for communication, new media and
human development squarely on the agenda of Africa's tertiary institutions.
Speakers will include Prof. Alfred
Opubor, a distinguished communications scholar from Benin, Alhagie Jobe,
the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Observer in the Gambia, Dr.
Osei Darkwa, the President of Ghana Telecom University, the Chairman
of the National Media Commission of Ghana, Mr. Paul Adu Gyamfi, Mr.
George White, Assistant Director, Centre for Communications and Community,
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Dr. Kwabena Riverson,
Adjunct lecturer, (AUCC).
Partners of this event include the
United Nations Educational and Scientific Organization (UNESCO), the
World Bank (WB) and media institutions in Ghana.
