The
International Relations Department of the African University College
of Communications (AUCC) has invited students and lecturers participating
in the “Semester at Sea” programme to
Ghana on their 100th voyage on 22nd September 2009.
As part of activities to welcome
the group to the Discovery House Campus of AUCC, all the guests were
initially given a bottle of water in line with the Ghanaian tradition
of serving water to guests to welcome them. This
was followed by a cultural display by dancers from the “Dza Nyumo” cultural
troupe who treated the guests to several traditional Ghanaian dance steps.
A luncheon was also organized for them after which the Vice-President
of AUCC, Prof. Kofi Asare Opoku gave them an overview of Ghanaian culture
by presenting a lecture on the topic, Introduction to Ghanaian
Culture.
Master Peter Morris of University
of Florida who was one of the visiting students, summed up the success
of their brief visit to Ghana by saying that Ghanaians were some of
the friendliest people he had met.
The group have since left Ghana
for South Africa, Mauritania and India and will return to the U.S. on 14th December 2009. |
