|AUCC Holds Historic Staff Retreat

Management, Faculty and Staff of the African University College of Communications (AUCC) welcomed the New Year on Friday, 8thJanuary, 2010 with renewed energy and enthusiasm when they participated in a one- day retreat at the plush “Little Acre” Hotel on the cool Aburi Mountains in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
In his opening address, the President of AUCC, Mr. Kojo Yankah, stated that the purpose of the retreat was as follows:

  • To enable participants  to build the AUCC vision together
  • To promote  Team Work  among participants
  • To plan together.

Mr. Yankah then informed members of staff that the year 2010 had been declared as “The year of accelerated growth.” He also announced that the former Associate Dean of Journalism and Student Affairs, Mr. Ato Amoaning had been promoted to the position of Vice President, Administration and Finance.
Mr. Yankah then outlined the vision, mission, goals, values, admission statistics, gender statistics and organizational structure of AUCC. He further stated the specific goals for the University for 2010.
According to the President, the expected outcomes at the end of 2010 were as follows:

  • Increased enrolment
  • Committed and  motivated staff
  • Computerized administration
  • Quality service
  • Enhanced image and visibility.

Participants were also privileged to watch two very useful videos on  Effective Planning  and Time Management. They were later divided into three sub-groups namely:

  • Academic
  • Administration
  • Technical & Technology Support

These three sub-groups were engaged in a highly productivebrainstorming session on how they could be more efficient and productive in their various areas of operation in 2010. The heads of the various sub -groups read their action plans to the entire group. The retreat came to an end around 6pm.
There was a general feeling of relaxation throughout the retreat and feedback from participants at the end of the programme was that they had all been invigorated to put in their best for a highly productive academic year.
